The Stanford Institute for Higher Education Research (SIHER), housed at the Stanford University School of Education, was founded in 1989. It pursues application-oriented research on higher education. The issues of particular interest for SIHER include college access, financing, governance, and curriculum design. SIHER is known for its interdisciplinary orientation. The institute explicitly aims to provide policymakers, researchers and leaders in academia with scientifically reliable analysis of relevant issues. Via the Stanford Graduate School of Education, SIHER also takes part in teaching – most prominently, in the School's doctoral programme in "higher education."
