The Nordic Institute for Studies in Innovation, Research and Education (NIFU) originally began as a department of the Norwegian "Research Council for Science and Humanities." In 1996, it was converted into an independent research institute. It carries out studies in the areas of innovation, science and education. Empirical surveys play a special role in its work. In connection with such surveys, NIFU is involved in a range of international projects. Its analyses and surveys are aimed at researchers studying the science and education sectors, as well as at science-/education-policy stakeholders and administrators.
