The Institute of Higher Education was founded in 1984, at Peking University. Since 2000, it has been part of the university's Graduate School of Education. It studies higher education issues from a range of different perspectives, and it pursues both theoretical and applied research. Findings from its work enter into Chinese education and higher education policy. The institute also emphasises comparative higher education research with an international perspective. The Graduate School of Education offers both a master's degree programme and a doctoral programme (Ph.D.) in higher education.
