The department of science and technology policy at the University of Campinas (Universidade Estadual de Campinas) was established in 1985. It offers study programmes that attract students from Brazil and from many other Latin American countries. The department pursues its research on the basis of the assumption that the development of science innovation is a social process that is shaped by political, economic and cultural factors.
