Higher education research has played an important role at the CNRS' CSO since the 1980s, and it now comprises one of the centre's seven research programmes. The CSO's sociological research covers a range of relevant topics, including higher education policy in France and Europe, the employment market for academics, and the relationships between public administrations and education institutions. A special focus is placed on the institutional perspectives of higher education institutions and their administrations.
