The Centre for Research on Evaluation, Science and Technology (CREST), housed at Stellenbosch University, South Africa, was established in 1995. In 2010, it also became a separate department of the university's Faculty of Arts and Sciences. Its research covers a broad spectrum of areas of relevance to the science system, including such areas as bibliometrics, research assessment, human resources in science, and science communication. The topic "science in Africa," for which CREST maintains an extensive database, is a special emphasis. In addition, the centre offers a total of five postgraduate study programmes (master's degree and doctoral programmes), in the areas of "Monitoring and Evaluation Studies" and "Science and Technology Studies." CREST also offers an (online) certificate course on "Science Communication."
