Aims of the Study Program

The Master of Arts in International Higher Education program outlines the major trends and issues affecting this fast-growing field and provides the skills to understand and analyze policy, practice, and theory.

Designed to provide the participants with a deep understanding of and a scholarly perspective on global higher education, this master’s program examines challenges and opportunities in different geographic regions, and explores leadership and management, economics and finance, and teaching and student affairs in the field.

Curriculum

The course comprises Core Courses and Research Courses as well as Electives.

The four required Core Courses introduce the field, its key concepts, and the intersections of theory, practice, and policy.

The Research Courses teach the skills participants need to complete basic research, assess data quality, understand methodological tools and theoretical concepts, and reflect critically on the intersections between theory and practice.

Electives examine key concerns and trends in international higher education. Participants are required to complete one course that examines issues from regional perspective, and two that look through a global lens at leadership and management, economics and finance, student affairs, and teaching and learning. Invited guest speakers provide additional insights to material covered in each of these courses

Target Group

The program is suited for students interested in developing careers in strategic leadership for internationalization of higher education, in policymaking for higher education in international organizations, and related areas.
