A perspective on 60 years of research on higher education and science

It is no easy task to describe and explain the origins and characteristics of research on higher education and science, since this area is an interdisciplinary research field that spans a broad range of different disciplines. Research on higher education and science began to emerge as a research field in its own right in the 1960s. The editorial team for the BMBF's "research on higher education and science" website (WiHo-Redaktion) conducted four interviews with "founding mothers and fathers" of research on higher education and science, giving these personalities an opportunity to provide a personal perspective on the history of such research. In their responses, the pioneering researchers present their recollections, garnished with anecdotes, in the context of sociopolitical developments.

The series begins with an interview with Prof. Dr. Ulrich Teichler, who is noted for his international comparative higher education research. Interviews with Prof. Dr. Sigrid Metz-Göckel, Prof. Dr. Margret Bülow-Schramm and Prof. Dr. Peter Weingart then follow.
